Potsdam, the capital of the state of Brandenburg, is located just near Berlin, in the west beside the Havel river, and has 140,000 inhabitants. The city’s history is over 1,000 years old, but it was the settling of the Hohenzollern in Brandenburg that marked a significant turning point, because in 1617 they chose Potsdam as their place of residence. These days, the proximity of the Babelsberg studios attracts many stars of German television and cinema. Potsdam is a very beautiful city, known for its castles, gardens and parks, several of which are classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the famous palace of Sanssouci.
