And then there is Che, the Andean Cordillera, Lake Titicaca and the famous charangos...so many clichés which show to what extent Bolivia plays a part in our collective imagination. At the heart of Latin America, bordered by Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile, Bolivia is the roof of the Americas, the highest and most isolated country in this part of the world, with splendid and varied landscapes, the eternal snow of the Cordillera and the torrid and lush Amazon rainforest. Yet it is not only the landscapes that do no cease to amaze; it is also the Bolivians themselves. To a large extent inheritors of the Pre-Columbian cultures of the Tiahuanacos and the Incas, they have preserved the magic and mystery of their rituals and customs. Today, a dozen ethnic groups cohabit this country of incomparable cultural richness, a perfect illustration of the slogan inscribed in the Bolivian constitution: “unity in diversity”.
